Cette contribution présente les approches théoriques et méthodologiques de notre recherche consacrée à l’étude des patrimoines locaux dans le contexte de leur inscription sur la liste du patrimoine mondial. Ces patrimoines « mondialisés » s’inscrivent dans de nouveaux contextes de gouvernance qui se heurtent souvent à la volonté locale de redéfinition des patrimoines. Pour étudier les rapports entre le niveau local et international, il convient de prendre en compte la nouvelle dynamique induite par la perspective décoloniale, portée notamment par la jeunesse et la société civile. Nous démontrerons comment l’ethnographie multi-située permet d’étudier les interactions entre les acteurs qui interviennent dans le processus de classement et de gestion des sites et les communautés locales en s’appuyant sur le cas de deux sites sénégalais classés sur la liste du patrimoine mondial : l’île de Saint-Louis et le Delta du Saloum.
