Dans cet article nous proposons d’étudier l’évolution des pratiques textiles au Québec et dans la région d’Ottawa. Certaines tâches domestiques comme la couture, le tricot et le tissage, pratiquées pendant plusieurs centaines d’années par nécessité afin de se vêtir et de générer des revenus, sont devenues aujourd’hui des activités de loisir à part entière. La présente étude s’intéresse à cette transition effectuée sur plusieurs siècles et elle repose sur l’analyse de sources d’archives, incluant des magazines et des ressources pédagogiques, ainsi que sur les témoignages des participants à une enquête orale menée sur l’auto-apprentissage et la pratique des loisirs créatifs textiles.
