Abstract

No quinto centenário do nascimento de Luís de Camões, este artigo propõe uma releitura d'Os Lusíadas através da análise das representações do sono e da sonolência à luz da neurociência contemporânea. Ao examinar treze passagens distribuídas pelo poema épico, investiga-se como Camões articula estas imagens não apenas como elementos narrativos, mas como dispositivos simbólicos e cognitivos. Através da convergência entre literatura renascentista e ciência moderna, este estudo revela como a experiência humana do repouso, do despertar e da inércia física e moral é poeticamente figurada com surpreendente precisão neurobiológica. Ao associar excertos específicos a fenómenos como o ciclo sono-vigília, a regulação circadiana, a consolidação da memória e a atividade onírica, revela-se um Camões atento à complexidade da condição humana, cuja obra antecipa, através da linguagem poética, dimensões que são hoje objeto da neurociência do sono.
