In Nordic countries, the removal of abrasive materials from roads post-winter poses a public health and environmental challenge. Traditionally, mechanical brooms have been essential for this task. However, a Quebec SME's innovative mechanical broom promises enhanced efficiency. This study compares the operational efficiency of Conventional and novel street sweeping technologies. It employs empirical data collection and advanced data processing, alongside a discrete event simulation model for both systems, tailored to urban and highway contexts. The research provides key insights for optimal system selection, highlighting the innovative system's superiority in efficiency and operational time reduction. Recommendations for street sweeping services to adopt a data-driven improvement approach are made contributing significantly to urban maintenance literature and future environmental management strategies.
