L’articolo analizza un romanzo di Carlo Coccioli, La notte di ballo, conservato presso la Biblioteca Marucelliana di Firenze. Completato nel 1949, il testo è ancora inedito in Italia, sebbene sia stato pubblicato in francese da Flammarion. L’analisi, condotta a livello sia testuale che contestuale, si avvale del materiale conservato nel Fondo Coccioli della Marucelliana e di due carteggi pressoché coevi alla riscrittura del romanzo: l’uno con Giulio Einaudi, l’altro con Curzio Malaparte. Questi permettono di far luce sulla poetica di Coccioli e sulla sua traiettoria di outsider nel panorama letterario del Novecento. La notte di ballo rappresenta infatti un unicum nell’Italia neoverista: un romanzo che racconta il ritorno a casa e alla comunità di un partigiano ed ex-frate tormentato tanto nella fede quanto nella sessualità, con riferimenti a un’angelologia, che lo discostano dalle narrazioni tradizionali della Resistenza. Al tempo stesso, si tratta di un dattiloscritto preparato per la traduzione francese e corredato di note a margine, che rivela i primi segnali del translinguismo dell’autore.
