Abstract
In questo intervento analizzo la scrittura di Carlo Coccioli e il suo “amore” per il Messico—paese in cui scelse di vivere permanentemente—alla luce in particolare dei suoi interventi giornalistici ora raccolti in Omeyotl. Diario messicano (1962) e del romanzo L’erede di Montezuma (1964). La sua scrittura originale, in cui, come già notato dalla critica, religione e spiritualità si configurano come chiavi interpretative fondamentali, è al contempo ricostruzione storica e critica sociale; i cambiamenti di cultura e civiltà che osserva o immagina riflettono e si riflettono nella sua vita. Ne L’Erede di Montezuma, in particolare, il racconto in prima persona della civiltà azteca e della conquista spagnola consente all’autore di considerare le dinamiche di potere che investono individui e collettività nel presente come nel passato, e di ipotizzare una soluzione alla violenza della Storia.
