Abstract

Underwater wireless power transfer is a promising solution for energizing submerged systems such as autonomous underwater vehicles and marine sensors. However, seawater's conductive and high-permittivity nature imposes challenges on electromagnetic field propagation, magnetic coupling, and thermal management. This study presents a coupled electromagneticthermal simulation in ANSYS Icepak to evaluate thermal behaviour in a seawater environment. Analysis of the eddy losses is also conducted to determine their impact on the coupling and transfer efficiency of the coil. The system employs a doublelayered coil structure designed to enhance magnetic flux density and improve coupling efficiency. The performance of the magnetic coupler is finally analyzed in both air and seawater medium using Ansys Maxwell, and a 15% reduction in mutual inductance is observed.
