Abstract
Emotions surrounding climate change, such as ecoanxiety and ecogrief, challenge climate change mitigation efforts.Those caring for the environment engage in a practice of hope for the future.Burnout and compas sion fatigue, often analysed in health care settings, are rarely examined in the context of environmental advocacy.Building upon Victoria McGeer's "art of hoping," this article seeks to name the emotional labour embedded within the futuremaking efforts of Canadian environmentalists.Ultimately, we argue that, in planning for the future(s), we must support and care for those who are already caring for our lands and collective future.
