Abstract
Partant de l’analyse d’un corpus de trente-quatre romans madawaskayens publiés de 1972 à 2000, nous évaluons la portée, voire la pertinence, du concept de littérature régionale, notamment en ce qui concerne son influence sur la construction d’un imaginaire social régional. Profitable, l’exercice nous conduit à mettre en évidence le rôle de la littérature régionale dans les débats référentiels entre acadianité et brayonnité au Madawaska et, par-delà les questions identitaires, à identifier un ensemble de thèmes révélateurs de préoccupations sociales propres à la région. Plus encore, l’analyse des romans nous mène à relever ce qui peut être lu comme un récit commun madawaskayen, soit la transfrontalité inhérente au vécu de cette population sise entre l’est du Québec, le nord du Maine et le nord-ouest du Nouveau-Brunswick.
