Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

After reviewing scholarly treatment of the Quebec/Scotland/Catalonia triad, drawing upon the book’s various contributions, this conclusion assesses the extent to which secessionism can be explained by the theory of political generations. As well, it analyzes the strategies that officials in the central state adopt to counter secessionism, assessing the relative effectiveness of each in the Catalonia, Quebec and Scotland cases. In life-cycle/cohort/period terms, the chapter argues that secessionist surges primarily constitute period effects that typically result from trauma and a sense of exclusion. Also, typically, such sentiments are produced by central state strategies that deny the very existence of internal nations or seek to eliminate them. As such, even if a particular generation stands out for its support of independence, there is nothing inevitable about accession to independence.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
