Abstract
Hildegard Peplau a contribué aux soins infirmiers, tant à titre d’experte clinique, d’enseignante, d’autrice, de leader que de théoricienne. Ses travaux théoriques et cliniques ont mené au développement d’un champ spécialisé en soins infirmiers psychiatriques. La théorie descriptive des relations interpersonnelles propose un processus thérapeutique favorisant le développement de la personne. Le processus de la relation interpersonnelle est un continuum divisé en quatre phases imbriquées. Tout au long de l’épisode de soins, l’infirmière et la personne malade adoptent des rôles différents pour finalement en arriver à des objectifs et à une compréhension commune de la situation. Sa théorie des soins interpersonnels peut être utilisée dans tous les domaines de pratique. La théorie des relations interpersonnelles de Peplau a su passer à travers le temps et se distingue encore aujourd’hui par sa pertinence et son utilité, tant en pratique qu’en recherche.
