Abstract
La pensée féministe a longtemps associé le care avec une approche à l’éthique qui est située, contextualisée, et emmêlée dans le désordre du monde vivant. À travers une étude du texte Mon frère de Jamaica Kincaid, cet article envisage comment l’expérience des soignants familiaux peut permettre l’élaboration d’une éthique du savoir que j’appelle « savoir avec le care ». La métaphore est une figure-clé que l’écriture de Kincaid refuse et invoque simultanément dans son texte lorsqu’elle témoigne de la vulnérabilité corporelle extrême de son frère mourant du sida. Je propose que ces métaphores « échouées » mettent en évidence la simultanéité de l’éthique et de l’épistémologique dans un contexte traumatique tel que l’épidémie du sida. Un savoir du care porte sur la capacité d’habiter de tels moments désorientants et de faire face aux vulnérabilités et aux incertitudes que ces moments relationnels révèlent.
