Abstract
Nombreux, nombreuses sont les cinéastes documentaristes qui mobilisent films et photographies de famille pour raconter leur histoire, pour investir le passé de leurs proches. Lorsqu’elles sont manquantes, ces images d’archives deviennent alors le sujet d’une quête cinématographique qui met en jeu la mémoire et l’imaginaire. Les films Carré 35 (Éric Caravaca, 2017), La Mémoire de mon père (Patrick Zachmann, 1998) et Patria obscura (Stéphane Ragot, 2013) engagent respectivement l’enquête, l’album et le prisme, et offrent une réflexion sur les différentes manières dont le cinéma, d’une part, réquisitionne la photographie comme l’enjeu d’une intrigue familiale, et d’autre part, articule le témoignage personnel et le récit du siècle. En trois mouvements, cette contribution voudrait ainsi considérer les rapports que le cinéma documentaire à valeur biographique entretient avec la photographie dans sa quête d’une écriture intime de l’Histoire.
