Les pratiques ethno-obsttricales des matrones hatiennes relvent de la pdagogie rgnratrice et rparatrice, car elles renvoient un ensemble de savoirs, de savoir-faire et de savoir-tre, ainsi qu' des modes de pense et d'action visant rgnrer et rparer le corps-esprit des femmes durant la priode de grossesse, pendant le travail et durant les suites de couches.Les sages-femmes traditionnelles (fanm chay) jouent un rle important dans la lutte contre la vulnrabilit des femmes enceintes, des femmes en couches, des accouches et de leur bb dans les milieux ruraux peu ou pas biomdicaliss o elles se substituent gnralement aux professionnels de sant forms la mdecine occidentale.Elles contribuent la conservation et l'utilisation durable de la nature par leur savoir-faire, leurs modes de pense et d'action.
