Abstract
The 21st century enabled the development of a generation of plastic artists who use the city as a setting (and as a raw material supplier) for their works. They see Art as a tool to raise society’s awareness of current issues and change attitudes. Bordalo II is one of the best examples in Portugal of what is known today as ARTivism, also analyzed here, being the author of an artistic production that excels, since his first works, for a very specific conception of what Art is and what it can be used for, in terms of the collective. Artistic manifestation is thus assumed as a way of actively participating in politics and society, combining Art with Activism. All of Bordalo II’s works undergo a transformation and a metamorphosis in the sense that everything (literally) can be (and is) used to create art, normally displayed outdoors, in the city space, available and accessible to all.
