Abstract
Marshall McLuhan, the First Electric Intellectual?" and more recently in an article entitled "The Electrical Conversion of Marshall McLuhan (Valle 2025)" posits that sometime between 1955 and 1959McLuhan developed the notion that with the telegraph, telephone, radio, recorded music and television, a transition from the mechanical era to the electric era took place.I suggest that as we transitioned from the end of the 20 th century to the beginning of the 21 st century that another transition has occurred, namely a transition from the electric era to the digital era with the emergence of main frame computers in the 1940s, personal computers in the early 1970's, the public use of the Internet and the World Wide Web in the 1990s and the smartphone in the 2000s.
