Abstract
This article explores the influence of culture on support practices implemented by social and solidarity economy (SSE) organizations in rural Tunisia. Various cultural dimensions of Tunisia are considered, some of which appear particularly conducive to the development of SSE and mentoring. While mentoring as a situated practice aligns with some conceptual frameworks, it needs to be contextualized to be understood. We therefore conducted a qualitative study involving 14 professionals from Tunisian SSE structures to examine how support is provided in this sectoral and cultural context. The findings highlight distinct characteristics of mentoring and demonstrate how Tunisian culture shapes the mentoring relationship across multiple dimensions: learning, nature, temporality, and socio-cultural norms, thus describing and shedding light on idiosyncratic mentoring.
