Abstract
Hồ Biểu Chánh (1885-1958) là một trong những tác giả nổi bật của nền văn học quốc ngữ Nam Bộ đầu thế kỉ XX. Tác phẩm của ông có nhiều giá trị đặc sắc về nội dung và nghệ thuật. Bài viết đề xuất cách tiếp cận mới đối với tiểu thuyết Cay đắng mùi đời của Hồ Biểu Chánh từ lí thuyết phê bình cảnh quan thể hiện qua cách thức xây dựng, chức năng của không gian, bối cảnh trong tác phẩm. Có ba vấn đề chính từ góc nhìn phê bình cảnh quan được khảo sát trong bài viết này là bản địa hóa cảnh quan, cảnh quan như một thử thách, và niềm khao khát sở thuộc với nơi chốn. Việc xây dựng cảnh quan như những biểu tượng một cách có tính toán, giúp người viết chuyển tải những bài học đạo lí gần gũi, góp phần tác động đến sự hứng thú trong tiếp nhận của độc giả.
