Abstract
Dans un court essai politique, L’universalité du racisme (128 pages), paru en 2020 aux éditions Lignes, Jean-Loup Amselle cherche à élaborer les contours d’un antiracisme véritablement « universaliste ». Marqué par la trajectoire intellectuelle et personnelle de l’auteur, cet ouvrage lui permet de prendre un certain nombre de positions dans plusieurs espaces discursifs. Il investit d’abord ceux de l’anthropologie et des études africaines. Ensuite, il se situe dans le champ de l’antiracisme de gauche. Enfin, l’auteur prend également position vis-à-vis de plusieurs débats identitaires portant sur les judéités contemporaines. Ces deux dernières dimensions structurent en grande partie les positions prises dans l’ouvrage, et c’est notamment à travers un surprenant rejet conjoint des « décoloniaux » et des « entrepreneurs identitaires » juifs que se dessine la proposition politique de l’auteur. Cet article vise alors à élaborer, en creux, les enjeux sociaux sous-jacents à ce double refus. Nous émettons l’hypothèse que celui-ci traduit une certaine mélancolie « libérale » face au déclin perçu d’un modèle particulier d’appartenance minoritaire, idéalement caractérisé par son minimalisme, son hétéronomie et son ancrage dans une citoyenneté cosmopolite.
