Abstract
In a transverse wave, particles move perpendicular to the wave motion. If you flip one end of a hanging string, by a vibrator, harmonic transverse waves can be produced. Transverse waves can be travelling and stationary. You can find the speed of a transverse wave in a stretched string by applying Newton’s second law and Hooke’s law. Then, you will be able to determine the power, energy and intensity of a transverse wave. At the end of the chapter the resonant standing waves in a sonometer wire (stretched string) are explained. You will learn the generation, transmission, reflection, superposition (interference and stationary wave) etc, of a transverse wave.
