Pérennisation d’une période d’activités physiques quotidiennes à l’école primaire : regard des acteurs scolaires 15 ans plus tard

Abstract

Conscientisés aux bienfaits de la pratique régulière d’activités physiques (AP) sur la santé et l’apprentissage des élèves, les membres d’une école primaire au Québec (Canada) intègrent dans la grille horaire une période d’AP quotidienne pour tous les élèves depuis 2009. Cette étude vise à : a) caractériser, à l’aide d’un modèle socio-écologique, les facteurs facilitants et les défis qui influencent la pérennisation de ce programme d’AP; b) décrire le rôle des membres de l’école ; c) coconstruire des stratégies de mobilisation. Des entrevues semi-dirigées et un groupe de discussion réalisés avec des membres de l’école (n=9) révèlent des facteurs facilitant la pérennisation à tous les niveaux du modèle socio-écologique, notamment des bienfaits de l’AP sur la concentration des élèves en classe. Les défis se rapportent aux niveaux institutionnel et intrapersonnel, tels que le roulement de personnel. La coconstruction de stratégies pour mobiliser les membres de l’école dans la mise en place du programme et la clarification de leurs rôles s’avèrent des manières efficaces d’optimiser sa pérennisation. Cette étude, l’une des rares à examiner la pérennisation d’une initiative d’AP sur une période de 15 ans, renforce l’importance d’utiliser une approche socio-écologique pour créer une culture favorable à l’AP en contexte scolaire.
