Abstract
This chapter reflects on the decision that Judge John D. Larkins made when he ruled against the author. His support of her dismissal from the teaching job at Inborden School was not because of any inadequacy in her teaching. Judge Larkins's decision was a continuation of the racist tradition of discouraging and attacking Black people who defied white supremacy in Halifax County in any way. The chapter considers how this fierce resistance to white domination was deeply rooted in the author's family history in Enfield, which began in 1768. The gains of the community are not always easily documented. But in the case of the Enfield struggle for freedom and the Halifax County Voters Movement, one can look at the direct political impact of the bitter struggle by counting the Black politicians who have been elected to office since 1965.
