Alors que le positivisme en sciences sociales a été critiqué pour son conservatisme politique, son technicisme et son manque d’esprit critique, il est rare que l’on insiste sur son potentiel de légitimer les violences internationales. Dans cette contribution, j’examinerai si les dirigeants politiques socialisés dans le positivisme ont tendance à être favorables à la guerre préventive parce qu’ils dépolitisent souvent la sécurité internationale en la considérant comme régie par des lois objectives. Cet article explore en particulier si ces représentations dépolitisées et technocratiques de la sécurité internationale sont liées à un certain type de socialisation scientifique et professionnelle. La question de la guerre préventive est particulièrement adaptée à une interrogation sur la dépolitisation de la sécurité internationale. Les promoteurs de la guerre préventive soutiennent généralement que les États n’agissent pas en fonction de considérations politiques mais sont mus par des forces objectives telles que l’évolution du rapport de force entre grandes puissances.
