Abstract
This chapter offers a comprehensive evaluation of the Indo-Pacific engagement strategies pursued by Europe’s Big Four countries, middle powers, minor powers, and the EU. Through a comparative lens, it distils their commonalities and differences. Next, it systematically analyses the drivers underpinning their respective engagements, encompassing security imperatives, economic interests, and normative objectives. Furthermore, the chapter delves into the complexity of intra–Euro-Atlantic cooperation where the Indo-Pacific is concerned, thus considering the role of the US, Canada, and NATO. It then assesses the main opportunities and risks concerning Europe’s Indo-Pacific pivot as a whole, prior to providing select policy recommendations aiming at minimising risks, maximising opportunities, and enhancing Europe-Indo-Pacific relations. By offering such a nuanced evaluation, the chapter provides valuable insights for scholars and policymakers alike.
