Abstract
Más que por cualquier otra faceta de su vida, Pedro Gómez Labrador es conocido por ser el representante español en el Congreso de Viena (1814-1815), en calidad de ministro plenipotenciario del recién restaurado en el trono Fernando VII. Precisamente por los escasos éxitos que el diplomático pudo cosechar en aquella reunión internacional, su figura ha estado acompañada de importantes críticas, que no solo cuestionaron sus aptitudes para la diplomacia, sino que también lo señalaron como uno de los responsables principales del descenso de España a la categoría internacional de potencia de segundo orden. En ese sentido, este artículo propone una revisión de la trayectoria de un personaje muy poco conocido que, atendiendo al conjunto de su biografía y a algunos de sus escritos, se lo sitúe en un momento de excepcional importancia para la política europea posrevolucionaria, en la que el acomodo de España se presenta no exento de dificultades y problemas.
