Ce texte s’appuie sur l’étude d’une lutte remarquable, celle des salariés de JOB, usine de l’industrie papetière implantée aux Sept-Deniers à Toulouse, dotée d’une organisation syndicale forte et ancienne. Cette lutte connaît un premier temps fort de six mois en 1995 au terme duquel les salariés ont mis en échec la tentative de liquidation judiciaire qui menaçait l’entreprise en butte à des difficultés économiques accentuées par des malversations patronales. Un deuxième période de conflit de dix mois, échelonnée sur les années 2000-2001, n’a pas permis d’éviter la fermeture du site. La lutte des salariés de JOB ne relève d’une figure d’action collective ni totalement ancienne, ni totalement nouvelle. Nous le montrons autour de trois axes d’analyse en étroite interaction : Le travail comme lieu d’élaboration de savoir-faire, de socialisation et de structuration identitaire étroitement liés à des espaces, géographiquement et culturellement situés, qui en portent en retour les traces. Les modes d’appartenance à une communauté syndicale, les dynamiques de décomposition-recomposition qui les traversent, les changements et les permanences. La lutte syndicale, dans ses lignes de continuité et ses renouvellements.
