Abstract
Veterinary technicians can play an important role in supporting clients through grief related to pet loss. Effective communication strategies are needed for working with bereaved clients during interactions, including euthanasia and memorialization, and aftercare with attention to cultural and spiritual sensitivity. Technicians are encouraged to uphold professional boundaries while delivering compassionate care, ensuring clients feel heard and supported. Case studies and actionable insights will allow veterinary technicians to develop skills to address grief responses, such as anticipatory grief and suicidal ideation, demonstrating the value of empathetic, client-centered care during end-of-life conversations and grief after pet loss.
