M. Gökçen Daş Darıcı tarafından kaleme alınan Osmanlılarda İstihbarat Faaliyetleri (1300- 1750) adlı çalışma, yazarın doktora tezinin kitaplaştırılmış şeklidir. Yazar; istihbaratın Osmanlı Devleti’nde, zaman ve mekâna göre nasıl ortaya çıktığı, nasıl şekillendiği, istihbarattan ne şekilde faydalanıldığı, tabiri caizse; “Dağın görünmeyen yüzünde neler yaşanmış?” merakıyla eserini oluşturmuştur. İstihbaratın tarih boyunca ne şekilde ve hangi kanallardan elde edildiği, nasıl işlendiği, idari ve askerî alan için ne derece önemli olduğuna değinmiştir. İslam devletlerinde istihbarat faaliyetlerinin öncelikle İslam’ı yayma açısından zaruri bir hareket olduğunu, Türklerde ise istihbaratın İslamiyet öncesi Türk tarihi kadar eskiye dayandığını, zaman içerisinde Osmanlı Devleti’nde de idari ve askerî alanlarda istihbarata çok önem verildiğini vurgulayan yazar, kapsamlı bir çalışmayı okuyuculara sunmuştur.
