Abstract

The rate of orbital expansion of the Uranus moons Miranda and Ariel, as described by the Hubble‐Lemaître parameter, is broadly similar to the rate estimated from tidal theory based on various assumptions. This is further evidence that the Hubble‐Lemaître parameter applies equally well to the Solar System as it does to the large-scale structure of the Universe. It is consistent with previous findings that tidal effects are often overestimated. These results are in conflict with the widely held view that cosmological expansion does not operate at the local level.
