Evaluación de la independencia funcional mediante WeeFIM en pacientes con mielomeningocele: estudio de cohorte retrospectivo en un centro de rehabilitación

Introducción: El mielomeningocele es el defecto de cierre del tubo neural más frecuente y se asocia con algún grado de discapacidad motora. El objetivo es analizar mediante el Wee - Functional Independence Measure (WeeFIM) la independencia funcional en pacientes del Centro de Rehabilitación e Inclusión Infantil Teletón Puebla con diagnóstico de mielomeningocele y su correlación con el nivel de lesión y número de servicios otorgados. Material o Pacientes y Métodos: Estudio descriptivo, observacional, retrospectivo y longitudinal, en una muestra de 83 pacientes, se aplicó la prueba de rangos con signo de Wilcoxon a los puntajes WeeFIM inicial y final, para determinar si había una diferencia estadísticamente significativa, se realizó correlación de Spearman para medir el grado de asociación de los cambios en el WeeFIM, considerando el nivel de la lesión, con el tiempo de estancia, que indirectamente nos habla del número de terapias recibidas. Resultados: La diferencia entre la escala WeeFIM inicial y final presentó una diferencia estadísticamente significativa con una p = 0,001, la prueba de Spearman a nivel torácico muestra una corre­lación débil y a nivel lumbar una correlación media entre la ganancia WeeFIM con el número de terapias en un rango de 3 a 5 años. Conclusión: La mayoría de los pacientes lograron independencia cognitiva, pero necesitaron ayuda en cuidado personal y movilidad, se demostró diferencia significativa entre las evaluaciones WeeFIM al ser evaluado con la prueba de Wilcoxon, la correlación entre los cambios del WeeFIM con el número de terapias recibidas, no fue lo suficientemente fuerte para hacer predicciones precisas.
