Abstract
En France, comme par ailleurs en Europe occidentale, les syndicats traversent depuis quelques décennies des chutes continues et séquentielles de leurs effectifs. Cette baisse ne touche pas les salariés ni les secteurs d’activités de la même manière. L’objectif de cet article est de déterminer les principales causes de la désertion syndicale, en analysant non pas les déterminants de l’adhésion comme cela se fait dans les recherches économiques sur le sujet mais en étudiant ceux de la non-adhésion permanente. Sur des données françaises de l’ESS (2002-2003) nous estimerons les déterminants de la variable « jamais adhérent » afin de caractériser les causes de la désertion syndicale observée en France.
