As a guest editor of this special issue, I, Qui Alexander, sat down with abolitionist scholar and educator Dylan Rodríguez to discuss questions and themes that inspired this special issue. Together we discuss what abolitionist praxis is, the relationship between abolition and education, what change means in an abolitionist tradition, and the driving question: are we ready for school abolition? Understanding the limitations—and irony—of asking abolitionist questions in an academic journal, we think through the lessons we have learned doing abolitionist organizing alongside our work as university educators. We discuss tensions and contradictions, as well as connections and imperatives for considering abolition as an educational praxis.
