ECR Spotlight – Zandra Santa Rita
Bibliographic record
Abstract
ECR Spotlight is a series of interviews with early-career authors from a selection of papers published in Journal of Experimental Biology and aims to promote not only the diversity of early-career researchers (ECRs) working in experimental biology but also the huge variety of animals and physiological systems that are essential for the ‘comparative’ approach. Zandra Marielle Santa Rita is an author on ‘ Responses of a locust visual interneuron correlate with simple and compound object motion within the vertical plane’, published in JEB. Zandra conducted the research described in this article while an undergraduate research student in Jack Gray's lab at University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Zandra is now a graduate student in the lab of Sandra Scott and Douglas Adler at University of British Columbia, Canada, investigating how hands-on learning and mentorship contribute to improving student outcomes, with the aim of developing inclusive pedagogical practices that empower underrepresented minority (URM) students to succeed in STEM fields.
Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Full frame distilled prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
