Abstract
This study evaluates the feasibility of substituting pulverized coal with solid biocarbon for direct injection in blast furnace ironmaking, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. A commercial biocarbon sample is systematically assessed for its physical, chemical, and grindability characteristics across varying substitution levels. Combustion performance is quantified using the CanmetENERGY‐Ottawa injection rig, revealing that biocarbon incorporation enhances injectant burnout. Analysis of combustion residues indicate favorable reactivity and carbon structure, supporting its suitability for blast furnace conditions. Heat and mass balance modeling further demonstrates that up to 27% GHG emission reduction can be achieved without compromising furnace operation, confirming biocarbon's potential as a viable low‐carbon alternative in ironmaking.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
