Abstract
= 999). Findings indicated depression and anxiety mediated the association between violence exposure and openness to VA. This finding supports the importance of addressing mental health in prevention approaches. Further, contrary to hypotheses, analyses indicated that the association between exposure to violence and greater openness to VA was strongest for individuals with higher levels of social support who had a positive view of the future. Motivation to promote change may be intensified when individuals feel closer to their social support system and when they believe that the change will be meaningful.
