Abstract
This article summarizes my personal and research interactions with Dr. Jim Hogg when he was at McGill University, with particular emphasis on the areas of pulmonary edema, pulmonary capillary permeability and the lung vasculature in general, with a window on some of his subsequent contributions during his tenure at the University of British Columbia and how his mentorship provided the necessary impetus for my own research endeavors. The originality of Jim Hogg’s contributions stems from his dual expertise in the lung vasculature and the airways, and his ability to combine techniques in the domains of physiology, morphology and pathology, using whole animal studies, pharmacologic and molecular studies, thus bringing his research effortlessly into the 21st century.
