Wind Turbine Blade Defect Detection Based on Improved YOLOv9 with CA and AKConv
Bibliographic record
Abstract
Wind turbine blade defect detection plays a crucial role in ensuring safe and efficient wind power generation. Deep learning-based methods have enhanced the accuracy of defect identification and classification. However, existing models often face challenges such as complex backgrounds, varied defect shapes, and difficulty in detecting small targets. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes an improved YOLOv9s-based defect detection algorithm. Specifically, we introduce a Coordinate Attention (CA) module into the backbone network to strengthen spatial feature representation, and add an AKConv module to the detection head to improve multi-scale defect detection. Experimental results on a publicly available wind turbine blade defect dataset demonstrate that the improved model achieves higher detection accuracy and better robustness while maintaining real-time performance, offering technical support for automated Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-based blade inspection.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
