Abstract
Abstract Global health is an inter‐ and multi‐disciplinary field of research and practice that draws heavily on the insights of social and behavioral scientists who focus on health issues and health outcomes as a result of global processes. The contributions of social and behavioral scientists to the field are described, emphasizing the following: (1) the social causes or determinants of health inequities (2) the ethics of global health practice (3) the global circulation of science and technology and its impact on local populations and communities and (4) global health governance. Global health research and practice is unique insofar as it follows a moral and ethical imperative to address the vast inequities that exist in the world today. Methods for challenging these inequities are presented.
