Abstract
For more than a quarter of a century, domestic clinical laboratories have had access to the DASTA communication data standard, which uses the National Code List of Laboratory Items (NČLP) for an unambiguous identification of laboratory orders and results. Discussed are the circumstances surrounding the creation of the NČLP, its brief history, its structure, and above all, a comparison with other international coding systems. At the same time, the discussion includes the recurring question of why the choice was NČLP and not, for example, LOINC, NPU, or SNOMED. It is noted that the NČLP is not only a part of DASTA, but will also be an integral part of the newly prepared HL7 FHIR standard, that it is currently being revised and implemented, and that the conditions are being created for the completion of mapping to NPU and the preparation of mapping to LOINC. NČLP is being developed in accordance with the needs of all fields of laboratory medicine involved and also covers a number of special areas.
