Abstract

In this paper, we present an information visualization solution, which applies heatmaps to public transportation data—such as general transit feed specification (GTFS) files—for visual analytics and comparisons of transportation systems in different cities. Evaluation results on real data from different transportation modes (e.g., bus, streetcar, metro, ferry, train) in various cities (e.g., Toronto, Helsinki) around the world led to useful visualized information and discovered analytical results, which reveal rider demands and help enhance transportation systems in these cities.
