Abstract
En este ensayo sostengo que, en el cuento “Fíchenlo, si pueden,” Virgilio Piñera propone tanto una subjetividad como una nación travesti que cuestionan la masculinidad hegemónica encarnada por el héroe revolucionario de entresiglos y, luego, por el Hombre Nuevo de Che Guevara. El escritor diseña esta nación alternativa por medio de dos estrategias: por una parte, mediante la representación de una niñez travesti y, por otra, a través de una discusión del canon decimonónico de la Isla, particularmente, de la pugna binaria que la crítica instaló entre la literatura esteticista de Julián del Casal y la literatura patriótica de José Martí.
