En 1958, Josefina Vicens publicó El libro vacío, obra que mereció el elogio de Octavio Paz y el Premio Xavier Villaurrutia. Sin embargo, la novela no fue objeto de crítica profesional hasta su reedición de 1978, con una carta de Paz como prólogo. Tomando distancia de las lecturas pacianas, en este artículo me acerco a la novela para tratar la escritura trunca y espectral del protagonista y los niveles en que aparece. Además, dilucido cómo tal escritura no se halla clausurada definitivamente sino que, al contrario, se descubre aplazada, anunciando el fin de una poética para ingresar a otra, inacabada.
