Abstract
Abstract Life Course Theory (LCT), sometimes referred to as the Life Course Perspective, recognizes that individual biographies unfold dynamically over time as people age within broader social, political, and historical contexts that generate and reproduce inequalities. LCT provides a flexible, orienting framework with theoretical and conceptual tools that are applicable across a variety of life domains, including health. At the individual level, LCT conceptualizes health as a dynamic process that unfolds over time, with age. The principle of time and place focuses on the broader social contexts within which individual biographies are embedded, including the more proximal settings of our everyday lives such as work, family, and schools, as well as the macro‐level social forces including social policy, historical events, and social change that form the unique historical context within which people's health unfolds over the course of their lives.
