Abstract

The present study experimentally investigates the influence of adiabatic and condenser length on the thermal performance of pulsating heat pipes (PHPs). Experiments are carried out on a multi-loop, dual-diameter flat PHP using acetone as a working fluid at a 40% filling ratio. To evaluate the effect of adiabatic length, three lengths of 0 mm, 50 mm, and 150 mm are tested, with the evaporator and condenser length fixed at 150 mm and 50 mm, respectively. Results indicate that the adiabatic section length has a negligible impact on the overall thermal performance of the PHP. On the other hand, to evaluate the effect of condenser length, the total PHP length is fixed at 250 mm with 150 mm of evaporator, while the condenser lengths of 20 mm, 50 mm, and 100 mm are tested. A consistent reduction in thermal resistance is observed with increased condenser length. This highlights its importance in improving heat rejection and promoting liquid return to the evaporator. The findings emphasize the significance of condenser length in enhancing thermal performance and the design flexibility offered by the adiabatic section suitable for real-world thermal applications.
