Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Abstract Il convient in contemporary French is a marker of congruence, where deonticity and axiology intersect. Congruence had also been basic to the semantics of Latin convenit : congruence with propriety, but also with the laws of nature or those of logic. This resulted in weak necessity competing with strong necessity. The latter, typically situational or alethic, is dominant in the case of convient in medieval French and conviene in Trecento Italian. It subsequently goes into decline, without the slightest drift towards epistemic modality ever materialising. The nexus formed by unipersonality, preverbation and ventive deicticity is likely key to understanding the semantics of convenit, il convient and conviene as well as of their deontic counterparts in Ancient Greek and at least three Germanic languages.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
