An introduction to the educational tradition in the persianate world: A historicist approach to philosophical foundations

Abstract
This qualitative study employs Historicism to examine the marginalization of Persian thought within academic discourse. Drawing on sources from Greek historiography, Arab-Islamic narratives, and literature reviews of the Persians, this study thematically analyzes and identifies the power dynamics in the dominant intellectual Greek and Arab-Islamic thought, which have historically overshadowed Persian contributions. By tracing these narratives, the study infers and classifies three core principles of Persian thought, with particular attention to religio-linguistic tolerance, the role of elite figures and divine Khvarenah , and the civilizational concept of Iranshahr . Historicism structures this analysis by highlighting how Persians conceptualized. Kherad (ancient Persian wisdom) as the basis for governance, cultural preservation, and the transmission of knowledge to subsequent traditions, including Hellenistic and Arab-Islamic tradition. In doing so, the study not only demonstrates the methodological value of a Historicist lens but also proposes a conceptual framework for further exploration of Persian educational philosophy and socio-cultural traditions.
