A Better Place? Unpacking the Role of Place for Sustainable Futures

Abstract
This panel symposium aims to bring new light on the different ways in which places and people interact in creating better and more sustainable futures. Bringer together a diverse panel of six leading experts, we set out to unpack what management and organization studies (MOS) can learn from places and place-based values in designing and organizing for sustainable futures. As such, we hope to advance the MOS literature by exploring two leading questions: (1) How are place, place-basedness and sustainability connected? and (2) How can we embed and navigate divergent place-notions in making sustainable futures? During the symposium, our panelist will creatively discuss how place might influence the potential future through its interacts with people, practices and organizations. Participants will, amongst other things, dive into the ways places perceived from different ontological perspectives and critically examine how this impacts the methodological choices of researchers interested in exploring the role of place in and for sustainability.
