Abstract
Canadian economist, historian and university administrator. Born in rural Ontario, Innis was educated at McMaster University, Toronto (BA, MA), and at the University of Chicago (Ph.D.). Having served in the First World War, he joined the faculty of the Department of Political Economy, University of Toronto, in 1920. From 193 7 until his death he was head of the department, and from 1947 he was also Dean of the Graduate School; at his death he was President of the American Economic Association.
