As this influence expands, the profession must embrace a visible, global commitment to ensure that chemistry is taught and practiced responsibly. The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) has launched the Guiding Principles of Responsible Chemistry, a framework that invites chemists, educators, and students to reflect not only on what chemistry can do, but also on what chemists should do to safeguard a livable, just, humane, and sustainable planet. These principles provide a practical foundation for integrating ethical responsibility into research, education, and professional practice, fostering a culture of accountability across the global chemistry community.
