Abstract
This article aims to explore how ski touring is represented through its various interactions with the natural environment, particularly mountain vegetation. Firstly, it examines how ski touring enables individuals to overcome the natural obstacles of winter forests. Here, the activity emerges as both a means of transportation and a way of engaging with the forest, fostering total immersion in this snow-covered vegetative environment. Secondly, the article analyzes how vegetation, specifically its woody components, is utilized as a resource in the production of ski touring equipment. This section addresses the instrumentalization of vegetation, demonstrating how the relationship with wood has been, and continues to be, central to this activity, while also discussing the ecological challenges associated with its use. Finally, the article illustrates how ski touring transitions from the vegetative to the mineral, revealing a dual-level practice.
